Hey people!
I just wanted to spread the word that there is a terrific chat room on this site that is grossly under used.
For the last few nights, myself and a few others have taken advantage of the space for some entertaining and informative chat. It doesn't seem that the site-keepers promote the chat room very much, so I've decided to help out...for the greater good.
There are some neat features that are noteworthy...to include: a personalized appearance, smiley faces, web cams, profile views and so much more that I haven't had a chance to check out. And, if you find someone you like in there & visa versa...you can always ------ and chat privately as well.
The point is...this is a social & networking site (operative word "social")...and this chat room is just a great opportunity to get to know other's in real-time. And that works great, because it seems that a lot of people are a bit on the shy side, and are hesitant to send emails, and then resort to the "Smooch" or "Mini-message" feature (which is ,in my opinion, impersonal and lazy - but that's just me).
So hey, I hope to see some new faces soon! And to help out...post a comment below to keep this forum on top so that new members have an opportunity to participate as well.
Peace, Love & Hair Grease!

Our chat system would definitely NOT try to 'gain access to your address book'.
Provided you are using a browser with up-to-date java compatibility, the chat system does not require a download onto your computer.
Even if you need to download a new version of Java, the java applet would not try to 'gain access to your address book'.
It sounds like you may have some spyware or a virus on your computer, and we recommend you look into a software application that will scan your computer for problems.
Norton has applications that can effectively monitor and protect computers from these types of problem.
Thanks,

`I don't know if this is related to POL's problem...but when I go into the chat room I get a "Warning" that I have viruses & spyware on my computer and that I should download "SPY PROTECTOR" to fix the problem.
**DO NOT DOWNLOAD "SPY PROTECTOR" - IT IS FAKE AND DANGEROUS!**
Since it looked fishy to me, I did a search for "Spy Protector", and discovered that it is in fact a spyware/malware type virus in it's own right. This is a type of virus that basically does a "scan", informs that you have bad things on your computer, offers to sell you a program to clean it up, but then takes your money and does nothing if not add more malicious code.
Now, this pop-up message ONLY happens when I'm in the Trans Passions chat room. I double checked my virus and spyware settings and nothing seems to be wrong with my computer otherwise.
Is it possible that the chat interface has been hacked, and proprietors of "Spy Protector" have somehow installed malicious code in the advertisements you have in there?
Until an answer is provided, I am refraining from using the chat room.

We are concerned by the posts in this thread, so we thought we'd make another comment.
Our chatsystem is provided by a reputable third party company, Userplane.
Userplane was previously a private company, but it was purchased over a year or more ago by AOL. As far as we can tell, there should be no cause for concern by any member using any Userplane application.
Based on the comments here, we have contacted our Userplane rep. to make them aware of what some members have reported.
Since no software automatically downloads when you are using the Userplane applications, you can enter the chatsystem without any risk or concern. Just don't click on any link that 'Warns' you of viruses, or 'Offers' to download anything to your computer.
Our guess is that some advertisers within the Userplane advertising system are using less than desirable advertising ploys to try and scare some people into downloading their products. If that is the case, we are confident that they are the exception rather than the rule, and our guess is that Userplane is not aware of them.
In any case, we do know that the Userplane system is constantly scanned for viruses, and that their advertising system and their applications in general, should be safe.
We will let you know if we hear of any reasons why there should be concern when using the chatsystem, but again, as long as you do not download anything onto your computer, you should be fine.
Thanks,
.

`I never see anyone there either. Pity, as I love a good chatroom.
EDIT: OK, I came here once again, and after 2-3 minutes of chatting, I got this link: coming up on my browser. It would not let me back into the chatroom without reloading the entire window. I am using Mozilla Firefox 3.0.5. I also have the latest Java update, loaded last week. It seems to happen when an advertisement reloads, but I couldn't verify this. I won't be going back to the room until I hear this is fixed.
Please do not post the URL's of the problem pop-ups within the forum area. We would like you to send us the URL of any pop-up you see, so that we can pass them along to our chat system provider.

We have been discussing this problem with our chat provider for the last month.
They have assured us they are working on the problem.
We do not allow pop-ups within our network, and it is highly likely we will be moving to a new chat solution if the pop-up problem is not resolved within the next few weeks.
Thanks,
.

Over the last month or so, we have seen a number of problems within the chat area...due to pop-up ads delivered by our chat system provider.
These pop-up ads caused a number of problems within the chatwindow.
We have implemented a change this morning that appears to have fixed the problem.
Please notify us (via the 'Contact Us' page) of any pop-up ads you see within the chatroom.
If you do see a pop-up ad, please provide us with whatever information you spot, including a banner description, company name, URL destination, etc.
Hopefully the pop-up ad problem has been fixed, but if not, we need your help to zero in on any additional problem advertisers.
Thanks,
.
